summer is here!
beginning of june update.
Hey everyone!
Can you believe June is already here? Which means it’s summer for all of us in the northern hemisphere. Honestly, I’m not ready for a new month…
May started off okay, but by mid-May, my stress and anxiety spiked. And today, I’m traveling for work with a massive headache. Here’s to hoping that I can survive this work trip without getting sick. 🤞
Blog Posts on Commonplace Books
I spoke about my blog post series on common place books in my last newsletter, but I’ve officially finished my current set of posts:
I’ve thought about writing about my digital commonplace book using Obsidian.md, but I think it’s best that I save that for the future.
If you have any questions or want to me to expand on something, let me know! I’m always open to ideas for blog posts.
Informal Book Club Update
I infrequently host a book club over on Instagram (and I’m also testing things on Fable). Unfortunately, I did not finish reading Babel by R.F. Kuang last month. I’m currently about 50% of the way though. However, since I didn’t pick a new book for June with #30DaysofFirstLines capturing most of my attention, I decided to simply extend May’s book club. Is that cheating? Probably. But it’s what I’m going to do anyway. lol.
30 Day of First Lines
With that being said, #30DaysofFirstLines is upon us! It’s a challenge I host every June on Instagram to encourage everyone to share their love of books using their pens and stationery. The challenge is fairly simple, each day simply share a handwritten first line from a book. Just be sure to tag me if you want me to see your posts.
I’m really excited to see what books everyone shares this year! I’m hoping to find some books to add to my TBR.
I hope you’ll check out everyone’s posts over on Instagram.
Newly Acquired Pens
I also shared two new pens that were gifted to me over on social media.
Firstly, I got the Writech Clictek retractable fountain pen. I was very surprised by how smoothly this pen writes! It’s truly a lovely writer.
The way the “door” opens for the retractable nib does throw me off a bit, though. I’m used to the Pilot VP with the internal door. So having a door swing outward kind of throws me off, and when I’m writing I find myself turning the pen so that the door is on top instead of to the side. This does not affect my writing but did take time for me to get used to.
Secondly, I got a Kolo Tino fountain pen thanks to Topdrawer. This pocket pen is super cute, and I absolutely love the design! I enjoy writing with it, but I wish it came in more nib sizes. Medium is good, but I prefer fine and extra fine nibs. If Kolo comes out with more nib sizes, I’ll definitely be purchasing another one.
Side note, if you’ve been thinking about purchasing anything from Topdrawer (I know I’m eying some of the Itoya notebooks and maybe even a Paper Republic notebook cover.), I have a discount code you can use! Use code AYACHAN91.JOURNAL20OFF at check out for a discount on most items. I do get a small commission if you use my discount code at no cost to you.
And that’s all I have for you in this email newsletter. I hope all of you are doing well, and I hope your June is starting off better than mine! I’ll catch you in my next newsletter.
❤️, Amy
